The chat window on WhatsApp may soon display the user's status.

According to reports, WhatsApp is developing a new feature that will display the user's last seen status in the chat window.

With over 2 billion users globally, WhatsApp is an instant messaging service owned by Meta. A new feature that displays a contact's profile details in the chat window is currently undergoing testing.

The most recent version of WhatsApp beta (v2.23.25.11) for Android, first noticed by WABetaInfo, now displays the status and last seen (if enabled) beneath the contact name in the chat window of the app.

Users who have enabled the functionality can alternate between their last seen and the status of the other user under their name if they are offline. But only if the setting is activated in WhatsApp's privacy settings will the data be displayed.

It is really convenient to be able to rapidly ascertain a user's status from the conversation window, as it eliminates the need to tap to reveal the profile information screen and allows the user to see if their status has changed.

In a later version of WhatsApp for Android, the new feature will be accessible to all users. It's still unknown, though, if the developers are preparing a comparable feature for iOS devices.

WhatsApp has been developing a number of new features over the past few months, including an AI-powered chatbot that resembles ChatGPT, voice chats for group discussions, email verification for both iOS and Android and more.
