Google disclosed in May that old or inactive accounts are more vulnerable to hacking, and the company is revising its policy regarding inactive accounts to prevent that from happening.

According to a policy recently implemented by Google, "If a Google Account has not been used or signed in for at least two years, we may delete the Google Account,  Google can also delete all data like documents, pdf files, images, etc. the of the associated Google Account.

Notably, accounts for businesses or educational institutions will not be affected by this. Furthermore, Google will notify the users several times before deleting their accounts.

How to maintain the activity of your Gmail account

There are a few things you can do to keep your Google account active if it hasn't been used in the last two years and you don't want it deleted.

What happens if you lose track of your previous Google account's email address or password?

All you have to do is take these easy actions if you can't remember your previous Google account password.

  1. Visit this link: https://accounts.google.com.
  2. Put in your email address on Gmail.
  3. Select "Forgot password."
  4. If you have already set up the account, Google will send a notification to your Android device.
  5. Press "Yes, it's me."
  6. After that, you will be prompted to set a new password, after which you can proceed.
