WhatsApp is expanding the functionality of its chat-blocking feature by allowing you to hide the existence of sensitive conversations.
WhatsApp has introduced a new secret code feature for locked chats. The chat-blocking feature the company announced earlier this year has been expanded to allow users to hide blocked chats with a secret code. This allows you to hide sensitive conversations with other users from the public if you give your phone to a friend or if your phone falls into the wrong hands. Alternatively, you can still keep your chats secure by using the person's PIN or password on your phone, or by scanning their face or fingerprint.
On Thursday, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the launch of a new Chat His Lock His Secret Code feature that lets you select a chat and lock it with a password or phrase. Chats hidden behind secret codes are not visible in the main chat list and can only be accessed after entering the secret code, adding an extra layer of security to your messaging platform.
After setting the secret code, there is only one way to view blocked chats on WhatsApp. You will need to enter the same secret code in the app's search bar. This will display conversations protected by the chat lock feature, but only until you exit the app.
If you don't need to hide the existence of your chats on WhatsApp, open the list of blocked chats using the secret code and tap the three-dot menu > Chat Blocking Settings to revert to the original chat blocking feature. You can return it. > Toggle Disable the secret code feature with "Hide Blocked Chats".
WhatsApp likewise says that you don't have to enter individual talk settings to lock a visit, simply a lengthy push on the talk to lock it. The Secret Codes feature has already started rolling out to users and will be available globally in the coming months. There's no word on when or if WhatsApp will introduce the secret code feature to the desktop version of WhatsApp.
